Field Service

Low/Medium Voltage Breakers

Chief among our field services for low to medium voltage breakers are a solid-state conversion procedure and a standard PM test.

The solid-state conversion procedure for a 600V Class Draw Out Breaker includes:

  1. Completely disassembling breaker, cleaning all parts, and painting frame and face plate, if needed
  2. Inspecting power and control fingers for mechanical soundness and signs of overheating
  3. Checking alignment of arc chutes
  4. Checking main contacts for alignment, pressure, and wear
  5. Checking close mechanism for wear and proper operation
  6. Checking trip mechanism for wear and proper operation
  7. Checking insulation for phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground resistance at 1,000 VDC
  8. Checking voltage drop across each main contact at full load current
  9. Installing 3 new current sensors, 1 new solid-state trip unit, 1 new actuator, and all mounting hardware
  10. Testing trip system by injecting current into each pole of breaker
  11. Lubricate unit as needed
  12. Furnish test data sheet for each breaker, showing results of mechanical and electrical tests

The standard PM test procedure for a 600V Class Draw Out Breaker includes:

  1. Inspecting power and control fingers for mechanical soundness and signs of overheating
  2. Checking arc chutes for alignment and signs of excessive arcing
  3. Checking main contacts for alignment, pressure, and wear
  4. Checking close mechanism for wear and proper operation
  5. Checking trip mechanism for wear and proper operation
  6. Checking insulation for phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground resistance at 1,000 VDC
  7. Checking voltage drop across each main contact at full load current
  8. Testing trip system by injecting current into each pole of breaker
  9. Lubricate unit as needed
  10. Furnish test data sheet for each breaker, showing results of mechanical and electrical tests

In each case, normal adjustments are made as required. Breakers needing further work or parts will be brought to the owner's attention so the owner can determine how to proceed. 24-hour emergency service is available: just call 1.800.345.2051.
